Revolution, revolution, revolutionquote by: public enemy
quoted: soundbite in
motown junktaken from public enemy's song 'countdown to armageddon', the first song on their album 'it takes a nation of millions to hold us back' (1988). the sample is taken from the part in which professor griff says: "the revolution will not be televised".professor Griff (b. Richard Griffin) formed The Universal Revolutionary Freedom Fighters Society (TUFFS) in his youth, providing study groups and martial arts training for young people. It was while he was offering a security service that he first met Chuck D. of Public Enemy and later became public enemy's "minister of information", providing samples and partly creating the public image of the band. Griff's CV subsequently included a residency as part of Public Enemy's "Security Of The First World" team, before, in the best traditions of hip hop, he managed to stoke huge controversy before he ever performed his first rap. As Public Enemy's "Minister Of Information', Griff went on record to state that the Jewish people were responsible for the majority of the world's wickedness, including the selling of his own race into slavery. The quote's explosive value had little to do with the fact that Griff's historical vision so obviously lacked substance, but it served instead to bring rap right into the mainstream of racial debate, highlighting the danger of allowing a platform to those neither gifted nor educated enough to use it (it is worth noting, however, that Griff inists he was misquoted).
His role as Public Enemy's diplomat ended when he was unceremoniously ejected, but Griff persevered with a solo career.
