quoted: soundbite in you love us (heavenly version)
in the beginning of the heavenly version of you love us you hear a terrifying sound made by violins. this is a soundbite taken from a classical composition called Ofiarom Hiroszimy-Tren which is polish for 'Threnody To The Victims Of Hiroshima'. this composition was composed by the Polish composer Krysztof Penderecki (born in 1933 in debica).a frequently quoted comment by j. bazuin on this composition is the following:"[...] This piece can only be described as terrifying." [...] "The piece has no regular beat, and no recognizable melodic shapes; really, the main feature of this work is its undulating, shifting level of sound density, intensity, and emotional fervour." [...] "The first sound that is heard in Threnody is the highest bowed note that the player can achieve on his instrument, played fortissimo. The actual pitch does not matter, as long as the wanted effect is achieved. Each of the fifty-two instruments come in at different times, creating a build up of sound. After fifteen seconds and a decrescendo to forte, the violins and violas begin a vibrato on the same note. The violins have a long slow vibrato that can extend a quarter tone from the note. The violas' vibrato is very fast and does not have such a great deviance from the original pitch. [...]"this piece of music is also used in the 1980 stanley kubrick film the shining, mainly in the part when protagonist jack torrance (played by jack nickolson) is getting mad and starts to attack his wife, wendy torrance (played by shelley duvall).
