In the open graves where the jews all lay
Life is fun
I wish you were here
They wrote on postcards to those held here
Oh Dear
Be a man
Kill a man
Be someone
Kill someone
Be a man
Kill yourself"about the quoted person:The Sex Pistols were one of the most influential punk bands of all time. They included Sid Vicious (bass), Johnny Rotten (vocals), Paul Cook (drums), and Steve Jones (guitar). The Sex Pistols were started by Glen Matlock, Steve Jones, and Paul Cook in 1975. They were managed by Malcolm McLaren. McLaren wanted a band that was rebellious and anarchic. he created the most hated and loved punk band of all time.
Their first single, the classic 'Anarchy in the U.
K'. wasn't allowed on the radio and many record stores refused to sell it because of its subject matter. Then Glen Matlock got kicked out of the band for "liking the Beatles". He was replaced by John Simon Ritchie, better known as Sid Vicious, who was Rotten's friend. Virgin Records released the Sex Pistols' single 'God Save the Queen'. It was a #1 hit, although it got no radio play, due to its content. The Sex Pistols released the classic punk album: 'Never Mind the Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols'. It rocketed to #1, and was then banned in stores. It was their first and last album.in 1979 sid vicious died of a heroin overdose after being accused of murdering his girlfriend nancy spungen.
In 1996, the four original members of the Sex Pistols, including Glen Matlock, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and John Lydon went on a commercial European Tour. In July of the same year, they released Filthy Lucre Live.the song 'Belsen Was A Gas' was recorded in Brazil with Ronnie Biggs, a train robber.the song, referring to bergen-belsen, a concentration camp created by the nazis in april 1943 in Lower Saxony, is about Jewish prisoners in concentration camps being forced by their captors to write postcards to their relatives to reassure them that everything was fine where they were (i.e. to deny what was really going on). The "Be a man! Kill someone!" denouncement is a scathing indictment of military mentality (in some live versions, Johnny Rotten would sing the lyric "Join our army!").'Belsen Was A Gas' was originally penned by Sid Vicious in late 1976, for his pre-Pistols band, The Flowers Of Romance. After vicious joined the sex Pistols, Johnny Rotten re-wrote the lyrics and the song entered the Pistols' live set in late 1977. A demo version of the song was recorded during this time at the band's Denmark St. rehearsal room, but the tape disappeared, and 'Belsen Was A Gas' would remain as the only self-penned Pistols song that was never properly recorded. Live versions are available on video and CD.the second version of 'Belsen was a gas' on 'The Great Rock 'N' Roll Swindle' - the studio version featuring Ronnie Biggs - was recorded after Rotten left the group and the Sex Pistols name was still attached to a band which had little do with it. Rotten despised the idea of working with Biggs and the re-worked lyrics for the new 'Belsen was a gas' (possibly written by either Biggs or Malcolm McLaren) were more anti-semitic in tone. In later years, Rotten would speak of the song disdainfully and unsurprisingly, it would not be played during any concerts the sex Pistols played after reforming. The song is often pointed to as an example of Punk's naïve idiocy of flirting with Nazi imagery (the line 'belsen was a gas' refers to the neo-nazi denial of the holocaust), but the lyrics condemn Nazism. [many thanks to the drainpipe for providing this interpretation of 'belsen was a gas' on our forum].the sex pistels have been one of the main influences of the manics. msp took the idea of spraypainting slogans on t-shirts from the sex pistols.
