'p.
m.r.c.' stands for 'Parents Music Resource Center', a conservative American organisation founded in 1985, whose main concern has been to denounce the obscenity and violence of rock music on the grounds that it is partly responsible for the numerous ills that plague the United States.it was founded by the wives of several congressmen. Among the founders are:
tipper gore, wife of Tennessee Senator Albert Gore; Susan Baker, wife of Treasury Secretary James Baker; Georgie Packwood, wife of Oregon Senator Robert Packwood; and Nancy Thurmond, wife of South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond.
The aim of the PMRC is to persuade the music industry to come with a form of self-restraint. Meaning, place a warning label on music products that are inappropriate for younger children due to explicit sexual or violent lyrics. Furthermore, the PMRC proposes that lyrics of labeled music products be available to the consumer before the purchase in the market place.
