Libraries gave us powerIN
a design for life:
'Libraries gave us power / Then work came and made us free'

inspired by the line 'Knowledge Is Power', which is engraved in a stone above the doors of the public library of blackwood. This library was built in 1904 with money donated by the coal miners, thus creating the chance for working class people to read and get intellectual power. patrick jones, nicky wire's brother, is an employee of this library.'knowledge is power' is a quote by british renaissance author, philosopher and scientist francis bacon (1561-1626). today bacon is seen as father of deductive reasoning. in his Meditationes Sacræ, De Hæresibus he writes 'Nam et ipsa scientia potestas est', latin meaning 'because Knowledge itself is power'. this line expresses bacon's trust in scientific knowledge.this line combined with the fact that it is engraved above the doors of a library with support from the working class, resulted in the line libraries gave us power.see
