the khmer rouge was a communist guerilla army lead by pol pot (1925-1998). it came to power in cambodia after a five year-war against the armies of leader lon nol in which it was supported by communist vietnam. during the reign of the khmer rouge approximately one and a half million political opponents were killed. a result were the so called 'killing fields': fields of skulls and bones of tortured opponents.at a certain time the 'government' killed all persons with glasses, because wearing glasses ment being intellectual, which was wrong according to the communist ideology of the agrarian revolution.

In 1979 the khmer formed a coalition with former premier Norodom Sihanouk and non-Communist leader Son Sann after an interference by vietnam.pol pot did not return in power after 1979. april 16th, 1998, he died of an heart attack.in repeat the manics equate the dactatorial reign of the khmer rouge with the position of the royal family.
