Be pure, be vigilant, behavein
p.c.p.:
'Ten foot sign in Oxford Street / Be pure, be vigilant, behave / Grey not neon, grey not real / Life bleeds, death is your birthright'
phrase taken from british cult sci-fi comic book series 'Nemesis the Warlock, 2000 AD '.
These comic books are about a horse-headed alien fighting the Xenophobic dictator Torquemada (named after the notorious spanish inquisitioner) who eliminates everyone who is not 'pure'. therefore his slogan is 'Be pure, be vigilant…. Behave!'many parallels can be drawn between this story and contemporary western society. these comic books can therefore be seen as critics of MODERN POLITICS and the way censorship works (everything that does not conform to the social standards and norms of 'purity' is eliminated). therefore this phrase is mentioned in
p.c.p. [lyric], msp's song directed against censorship (see
p.c.p. [phrase]).the song
judge yr'self was intended to be on the soundtrack of the 1995 movie
judge dredd, but was never released because at that time Richey Edwards disappeared. Judge Dredd is a comic hero in 2000 AD. he was made a movie character played by Sylvester Stallone in the movie Judge Dredd.
