with his brother paul former of The Happy Mondays (1984). Paul's bass playing was complimented with the guitar work of Mark Day, keyboarding of Paul Davis and drumming of Gary 'Gaz' Whelan. Shaun added rhyme and chants in his Salford accent.
Happy Mondays was a British 'madchester urban folk' band. they created, together with the stone roses, the 'new' manchester music scene and were mainly inspired by New Order (see a design for life [phrases]) - if more for their working-class credentials and party mentality than for their music. The band split up in 1993 and Ryder and Bez re-emerged in 1995 as part of a new coalition, Black Grape. When Black Grape broke up, Happy Mondays were resurrected with some different members.
