Prologue to history:'Today a poet who can't play guitar / Tomorrow Phil Bennett's playing outside half / Next year the world's greatest politician / Yesterday the boy who once had a mission'
Welsh rugby union player for Llanelli, Wales, the British Lions, and Barbarians. According to fan sites an outstanding fly-half (usually partnered by Gareth Edwards at scrum-half), an expert kicker, with an adroit dummy, side-step, and swerve, he won 29 caps for Wales. He made eight Test appearances for the British Lions, whom he captained in New Zealand in 1977 (the second Welsh player to have led the Lions). Now an After Dinner Speaker both at Sporting and Corporate events.
His autobiography is entitled Everywhere for Wales. Today, Bennett is a regular football commentator on television. In 2005 he was admitted into the Welsh rugby hall of fame.
