american physician and chemist from Georgia who invented the popular soft drink Coca-Cola. After attending pharmacy school, Pemberton opened up his own drug store in Columbus, Georgia. He later served as a confederate lieutenant in the Civil War. After moving to Atlanta, he begin selling his medicines. His best selling product was wine of coca. It was in 1885 that Pemberton mixed up the syrup that would later become Coca-Cola. The name Coca-Cola came from Frank Robinson, a man pemberton had met. He then sold the drink as a brain tonic for five cents, but it was poorly received.
In 1888 he sold the formula to Asa Candler for $1,750. Pemberton died in Atlanta in 1888. It was under Candler that the Coca-Cola Company was founded in 1892 and It was in 1894 when Coca-Cola was put in bottles and sold all over the world.
