biblical figure, who's life and doings are described in the book of daniel, a part of the old testament. Daniel was a hebrew in exile, a prophet, a visionary and a teacher at the court of several babylonian kings, including nebukadnezar and darius. The story of the lion's den is told in chapter six of this book.the story: some of the other people in charge of the city of babylon, who weren't quite as important as Daniel, became jealous of him, and they set out to find fault with him.
They knew that the only fault they could find to tell king darius about was the way Daniel always worshipped God, so they went to see the king with a scheme. They made out that they wanted to honor the king, and asked the king to make a rule that for thirty days, no-one could worship anyone else besides the king; and if they didn't obey they would be thrown into the den of lions. the king thought that it would be great if everyone worshipped him, so he signed the law.
They watched to see what Daniel would do, and they saw that Daniel still kneeled down to pray to the hebrew God three times a day as he always did. They saw Daniel open his windows and pray towards
jerusalem, God's city, just the same way he always did. thus, they had finally caught Daniel out, and reported him to king Darius.
When the hing heard that Daniel had continued to worship God, he was very annoyed with himself for not seeing through their scheme, and he tried everything he could think of to save Daniel from his punishment. but he had to agree to the punishment, for it was his own law, and that evening Daniel was thrown into the den of starving lions.next morning, the king hurried to the den and called out: "Daniel, God's servant! Has your God been able to save you from the lions?" he heard Daniel's voice reply to him: "Yes, King Darius, my God sent His angel to shut the lions' mouths, and they haven't even touched me. That's because I never did any wrong to God, and I haven't done any wrong to you either."King Darius got the guards to pull daniel out immediately. Then he ordered that the men who had accused Daniel, as well as all their famillies, be thrown into the den of starving lions instead.
Afterwards, king Darius sent out a law that everyone should worship the God of Daniel instead, and he sent copies of the new law to every part of his kingdom. The new law said that Daniel's God was the true God.
