IMDB link synopsis:
Semi-biographical and Based on the writings and experiences of "gonzo" journalist Hunter S. Thompson, 'Where The Buffalo Roam' details the adventures of Thompson and his attorney as they pillage and plunder their way across America on a drunken, drug-saturated mission. it chronicles, loosely, the events that gave Thompson his greatest notice in the late '60s and early '70s.
The film itself is more of a three-act play, with the beginning showing Thompson in his home, drinking and writing, struggling to meet the deadline for a magazine. The magazine, given a fictitious name in the film, is actually 'Rolling Stone', which keeps Raoul Duke, one of Thompson's pseudonyms, as its sports editor listed in the magazine's masthead. From the beginning, the viewer knows Thompson is an unstable, violent wreck, as seen when he begins shouting repeatedly at a fax machine, to the point he draws a gun and shoots it, missing several times.
The viewer then learns that the story thompson is writing has taken period over several years as we next see Thompson in a hospital room that looks more modern. His attorney comes to rescue him on the way to court, where Lazlo intends on defending a group of teenagers busted for drug possession. Lazlo believes that the crowds of teenagers were all victims of unfair laws and attempts to get all charges dismissed, while Thompson, armed with cocktails and his charade of drugs, watches and listens from the gallery, often piping up at the wrong moment.
The film continues to move forward with Thompson moving on to cover 'Super Bowl VI' — from his hotel room near the stadium. The film's third act comes with Thompson covering the 1972 Presidential Campaign, and ultimately interviewing one of the candidates in a men's restroom.
