on this book:
'Go Ask Alice' is presented as based on a real diary of a fifteen year old girl. this diary was about her use of drugs and how she tried so hard with help of her famliy and friends to overcome her addiction. She succeeded in doing so, but a couple of weeks later she was found dead in her house. No one knows how she died, only that she was one of the thousands of drug deaths that year.'Go Ask Alice' was the product of Beatrice Sparks, an author who has come out with a number of "teens who saw their lives ruined by their bad choices" offerings, each one presented as a true story, often in the form of a diary of an anonymous teen. The precise authorship of 'Go Ask Alice' is still a bit of a mystery. Beatrice Sparks is presented as its editor rather than its author, and one tantalizing mention in a 1998 New York Times book review indicates the book might have been the work of several people. it is unknown if this novel was based on a diary, or that it is just written by someone else, used as effective anti-drugs propaganda. it is however certain that the language and observations in this 'diary' are too difficult and complex to be written by a 15 year old girl.in 1973 a tv film based on this book came out.
